blogs are the new mixtapes

so as i was checking out 2dopeboyz as i usually do and streaming the youtube clips i got hit with this crazy notion, the blogs are the new mixtapes.

if you remember mixtapes (the ones that you had to buy with dj’s screaming and just playin exclusives, not really mixing) then you will remember that there was a crop of rappers that were huge on the mixtape circuit. shit you will remember that it was a BIG deal to get placement on one of them tapes. and since ppl bought the tapes they played em, and yeah there were alot of mixtapes out there but you knew who had that SHIT and who didnt. and even down to the songs that made the rounds on all the mixtapes, those were usually new singles or street singles from artists that werent affiliated with the ‘dj’ at all, just some hot shit to make you sit thru listening to all the mixtape rappers and their homeboys or some shit

so now we have blogs, and the above scenario is EXACTLY the same, identical. except for where as mixtapes had a minimum shelf life of 2-3 weeks in rotation, with blogs and shit you have a day. one day! i mean blogs arent your only source of exposure but online its one of your biggest. the dedicated readership of each blog knows that when they check in they gotta look like 2-3 pages deep to catch all the updates and this process has essentially replaced goin to see what new tapes dropped each week.

online a week is the equivalent of a month, a day is a week, an hour is a day and so forth… its all accelerated if you havent noticed. thats why some shit is the talk of the town yesterday and not even remembered at all the next. the internet has a very short memory.

i think that where as 50cent forever changed the mixtape game, the internet obliterated it. well i mean they are still around but its not as big of a deal as it was to have a mixtape and they are made/used differently now. i have nothing against blogs. shit i run one and i have affiliations with a few (whatup meka/shake!) but tell me im not buggin by thinking that blogs are the new mixtapes. please tell me im not going crazy. i think im on to something
