Big Don is finally at rest. The service was beautiful and well attended. My dad was truely someone special. I decided to speak during the remarks and it had to be one of the toughest things I have ever done in my life. I’ve rocked so many stages in my short career as a musician but this time was very different. I got up and tried to keep my composure but even with the assistance of the notes typed in my sidekick (me and that phone *SMH* lol) i just couldn’t get it all out. I got the majority of it out tho. and thats what matters.
the linked song is from the long awaited ‘reiteration’ lp. its a pretty personal song dedicated to my family. i’ve always had a problem being really personal on songs and this was really an exercise in breaking that. the second verse is about my dad, i wrote it around the time my dad initially got diagnosed with cancer and ended up rewriting and rerecording it a short while after. (the original beat for the song ended up as the song ‘raw life’ on the album connected by the foreign exchange, im not mad about that at all. maybe ill post the demo up one day… probably not lol) i let the whole family hear it and they all loved it, dad included. He was very supportive of my decision to pursue music and loved when id call and tell him the tour stories.
and incase you were wondering reiteration is still coming, still produced by entirely by von pea and still dope as hell. just not first anymore, ill talk more about that later when i finally decide to discuss don cusack. for now just enjoy the music..
