This is the part where I make a bold, declarative statement that I'll be forced to defend if you ever see me offline. So let's just rip that bandaid right off and get it over with LL Cool J is the goat when it comes to unhinged content. There I said it. I realized that this is a very bold statement to make, especially when standoms have turned artist critiques into bar brawls, and Kanye is doing everything in his power to destroy his legacy. He's gone full Kanye several times and he will probably go even fuller Kanye by the time you hear this.
But let's be clear, that is unhinged behavior. I'm talking about unhinged content.
Don't get it twisted, LL is a hip hop superhero. In fact, he is the originator of the acronym GOAT (that's greatest of all time), an impeccable catalog with an indelible impact on the culture, and he's still very active. Yeah, he's one of them ones, but he's also been responsible for some absolutely batshit banoodles musical moments and insane music video performances to match.
He also knows that we know that he's prone to get unhinged from time to time. He recently took the TikTok to respond to a Twitter thread depicting some of his most unhinged moments, and his explanations only serve to further my point. Two of the videos that he described watching were Loungin feature in Total, and a Babyface cover of This Is For The Lover in You that he had a guest verse on. I highly suggest you go watch 'em when you get a chance.
LL once sat down for an interview on one of the greatest podcasts of all time, the Combat Jack Show for a wide ranging conversation that went pretty in depth on a lot of his history and even broke down a few of his most notorious bars but one of the main takeaways for me was that he laughs like an evil genius.
The man is out of control, but word to EPMD so is rap in general, and it's been that way for a long time, since before social media even existed.
